" Sunrise in the sky of the heart is the most blessed sight."

                                                                    Swami Nityananda

Through meditation we can safely enter the quiet and inward places of the mind and heart.” (Sandra Anderson and Rolf Solvik) The practice of meditation offers a path to deepen the journey towards self-awareness. It offers a means to create a calm and focused mind that is less easily disturbed by the turbulance of daily life.

Introduction to Meditation

TBA 7:00-9:00

This class is taught prior to each session so that new students will be prepared to join our ongoing Yoga and Meditation classes. An introduction to the 8 Limbs of Yoga will help students to understand the process of meditation and how it is understood within the teachings of Yoga. We will explore ways to improve support and comfort in the sitting postures, relaxation techniques, increased understanding of proper breath techniques, concentration and mindfulness.

Yoga and Meditation

Our ongoing Yoga and Meditation classes offer a moderately paced asana practice followed by relaxation and a guided meditation. Students will develop the skills for creating a meditation practice. Asana practice will be taught as Level 1/2. Suggested Prerequisites: Intro. to Meditation Workshop & Level 1 class or equivalent.

The Wednesday 10:00-11:20am & Sunday 9:00-10:20am classes will continue to be regular session classes but drop-ins are welcome.

Akhanda Japa

Year-Long Group Meditation

Inner Healing in a troubled world

Akhanda Japa (uninterupted group meditation) is a time-honored practice in the Himalayan tradition for infusing the collective consciousness with peace and harmony. This ancient practice brings about transformation at the individual level and exerts a positive influence on the entire web of life.

From November 11, 2011 through November 11. 2012 the meditation hall at The Himalayan Institute in Honesdale Pa. will be the locus of an around-the-clock group meditation in the presence of a sacred flame, which represents the divinity shining within us all.

The Himalayan Institute is the spiritual home for many of the teachers here at the Avalon. Throughout the year we attend seminars and retreats to further our training, expand our understanding and deepen our personal practice.

Several of us will make the commitment to a daily practice, as well as visit the Institute for  seminars or retreats so that we may be part of the Akhanda Japa from home. We hope you will join us in this commitment. If you are new to meditation, perhaps you might begin with a short daily or even weekly commitment to meditation at home and with us. If you are a more practiced meditator you might take this opportunity to deepen your commitment to practice. Visits to the Institute will be announced on our facebook page.

Wording for parts of this presentation were taken from Himalayan Institute materials
